My humble thanks and gratitude to all of you who are taking the time to read this commentary! Traffic is steadily increasing on this site and I pray that it is a help and a blessing to all of those who visit. I apologize for the fact that it has been nearly an entire week since the last post, but my family and I were able to enjoy a few badly needed days away together.

Is Russia really leaving? Russia claims that it is pulling its troops out of Georgia, but so far all reports point to the contrary. NATO is staging an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis and figure out what steps to take next. US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice stated that “Russia is playing a very dangerous game” with the US and its allies. What are Russia’s aims? The US has vowed to rebuild and continue to back Georgia and other regional democracies. Georgia and Ukraine are both very interested in NATO membership. Secretary Rice also accused Russia of trying to destabilize and topple Georgia’s government. Read the story

Pakistani President Musharraf has announced his resignation. The Pakistani leader, a staunch US ally is slated to undergo impeachment proceedings from the parliament, due to his attempt to establish authoritarian rule over Pakistan. The people of the troubled nation celebrated at the news. The US reports that the Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is safe and poses no threat. The country, for now, is under the control of a ruling coalition and stable. The Parliament has said they will be stripping the office of President from some of its powers and know one knows whom they will elect to replace Musharraf. Read the story
